The main function of the clinical microbiology section is to culture different samples of patients who are suspected of infection for the purpose of examining microorganisms, accurately identifying the isolated species, performing antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) and evaluating serological samples for infectious diseases.
In the Microbiology section of Payvand Clinical & Specialty Laboratory, experienced personnel transplant using updated methods that helps doctors to diagnose and treat infectious diseases.
Some of the actions taken in this section are as follows:
– Having External quality control in collaborating with the two organizations of the Doctoral Society of Laboratory Sciences (EQAP) and the Iranian Pioneer Association (EQUAS). Each of them held three times per year, with two unknowns samples from two different centers that are Submitted for Microbial diagnostic and sensitivity testing and Drug Resistance Types of Bacteria in which the Payvand Laboratory’s Microbiology Division has always achieved maximum points.
– Phenotypically determined and reported on the pharmacological and antibiotic resistance of ESBL strains that contain broad-spectrum beta-lactamase and are isolated from patient samples. Third-generation cephalosporins (such as ceftriaxone, cefotaxime, ceftazidime) and monobactam (such as azetreonam) have acquired resistance through the production of broad-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs). In the specialized transplantation diagnostic laboratory, the strains of this bacterium are identified using antibiotic agents such as ceftazidime, cefotaxime, and cefepodoxime with or without inhibitors (such as clavulanic acid). Also, AMPC and MBL-specific drug-resistant strains are being added to diagnostic tests.
– In addition, Payvand Clinical & Specialty Laboratory voluntary participate in acid-fast bacilli (BK, AFB) diagnostic methods in each EQAP period were used to evaluate the specific staining quality of xylenolone in direct slides prepared from sputum samples and … as well as the detection and scoring of acid bacilli.
– Identifying the species of Enterobacteriaceae (BCS) and some non-fermentative gram-negative bacilli with API Biomeriux diagnostic strips, which made in France.
Important indicators of Microbiology Section include:
- Implementation of quality management system in accordance with national and ISO standards (10002 + ISO 9001)
- Continuous monitoring of the quality of testing with regard to internal and external quality control (in some cases)
- The speed of tests, such as blood cultures and Urine cultures, is less than 24 hours in emergencies.
- Employees with a minimum of a Master’s Degree in related fields with the necessary knowledge and experience as well as experienced consultants in this field
- Applying world-class equipment and technology
