- Pinworm Preparation (Scotch Tape Test)
The most satisfactory means of diagnosing pinworm infection is by the recovery of eggs or female worms from the perianal region. Only 5% to 10% of infected persons have demonstrable eggs in their stools.
- Prepare a piece of adhesive tape about 1cm wide and 8cm long.
- Lay 1cm on each side to create a bar without clinging to the hand.
- Then place the tape on top of a wooden applicator so that the viscous part is outward and with the index finger and thumb hold the back part with the applicator body (be careful the viscous part must be out and no adhesion between the tape and Do not create an application).
- The patient is knee-chest (prostrate) and slightly raises intra-abdominal pressure to show anal mucus.
- Apply the applicator you have glued around to the anus (center, right, left) and glue and remove after a minute, then remove the adhesive tape from the applicator head and glue on the slide.
- Fold the extra pieces of glue off the sides of the slide.
- Gloves should be worn when preparing a slide.
- Hands should be washed after slide preparation.
- This test should be done early in the morning before bowel movement.
- Deliver the slide to the lab as soon as possible.
