World AIDS Day & The CoVID-19 Challenge

November 30, 2020

Since 1988, in order to increase budgets and raise public awareness, education, and the fight against discrimination, December 1 has been called for HIV international Day. Every year for this day, a special slogan is considered. The main purpose of this is to remind the public that HIV is not gone and there is still a lot of work remain to be done. In Iran, this occasion has been introduced during a week as AIDS awareness week.

Elimination of stigma and discrimination, attention to the public to receive health services based on justice-based approaches, is one of the main keys to facing epidemics such as CoVID 19 and HIV. Consequently, the theme of this year’s World AIDS Day 2020; Global solidarity, shared responsibility.

Due to the importance of preventing the occurrence of AIDS and raising public awareness, the AIDS awareness Week from the 11th to the 17th of Azar, 1999 is as follows:

For the first day of this week, Tuesday, December 1, 2020, has been chosen as “Increasing organizational resilience and increasing access to services and information in times of crisis.”

The titles “Family and HIV” and “Media and HIV” have been selected on Wednesday, December 2, and Thursday, December 3, 2020, respectively.

“Youth, Adolescents and HIV” is the title of Friday the 4th of Azar, and “Social Responsibility and HIV” is the title of Saturday the 5th of Azar and the fifth day of the AIDS awareness Week.

For the Sundays of the sixth and Monday of the seventh of Azar, the day titles: “The Role of Organizations and HIV” and “Positive Look, Positive Life” have been selected, respectively.

In 2020, there are plans to hold World AIDS Day campaigns in order to provide further support for the HIV service centers. These campaigns reflect the experiences of people living with or affected by HIV (limited access to medicine and health care and economic hardships during the CoVID-19 epidemic) and convey their needs for continuing service in crises.
